Mrs Amy Holden

Counseling Psychologist

I work with all age groups, and I follow a psychodynamic approach to therapy. I have a special interest in prenatal and antenatal care. However, ANYONE would benefit from therapy, and no topic is off bounds.

About Me

I am a registered Counseling Psychologist based in Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy (in person and online), as well as child and adolescent psychological/emotional and diagnostic assessment.

Approach

I work from a holistic perspective, and believe that mind, body, heart and soul/spirit are interconnected. When change takes place in one area, the whole of a person begins to heal. My wish is for clients to connect to me, feel safe and supported to explore their true selves, cultivate self-awareness, and heal on all levels. I aim to be a helpful and compassionate presence in therapy, drawing on my own innate knowing and wisdom, in cohort with yours, as we discover and recover the many parts of you. I also have a special interest in women's health (particularly the womb), pregnancy, and postpartum. I am a registered 300 Hr yoga teacher and hold certification in healing with natural and complementary therapies (including essential oils, nutritional supplementation and Bach flower remedies). I am a Psychodynamic Practioner, and therefore work at a very deep, interpersonal level. I also ‘borrow’ from other approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, existentialism, dialogical self-theory etc. I believe that one's religion/spirituality and faith is a core part of healing and wholeness, and so this may be included in our therapy. The ultimate goals of therapy are individual, but reconnection to the self, restoration and harmony are helpful byproducts. Please contact me if you are looking for a personable, real, open and holistic minded Psychologist who you can work with long term. This is anywhere between 3 months and 3+ years.
