Mr Suntosh Pillay

Clinical Psychologist

I am the chief clinical psychologist for the eThekwini District, Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal. I am also a researcher affiliated to both UKZN and UNISA. I have experience in individual psychotherapy. group work, supervision of psychologists & registered counsellors, and treatment of serious mental illnesses & forensic work

About Me

As a clinical psychologist, I offer individual and group psychotherapy. My diverse background as a researcher, media writer, and community activist enriches my clinical approach. This allows me to help clients explore their experiences with a grounded, comprehensive understanding. I aim to create a collaborative space where you can make sense of challenges and find a way forward.

Approach

Working across public services and university research, I focus therapy on careful assessment and collaborative goal‑setting that honours each person’s context and strengths. Sessions — in English, from my Durban office or via secure online meetings — move between focused problem‑solving, reflective exploration and practical tasks to try between appointments. I keep a measured pace, offer regular feedback and use diagnostic review when needed to shape treatment for grief, mood, trauma or relationship difficulties. Those seeking a structured, evidence‑informed and humane process often find this approach helpful.
