Mrs Wendy Tyghe

Licensed Educational Psychologist

An experienced SPELD assessor doing assessments for Dyslexia for 15 years. I have used relationship-based attachment therapy with parents and their infants/children for the past 9 years. Trainee member of the New Zealand Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists.

About Me

I support families navigating challenges in learning and early childhood development. For learning differences, I offer comprehensive dyslexia assessments, providing clear insights into a child's unique profile. For young children, I specialise in relationship-based attachment therapy, helping parents build strong, secure bonds. This approach helps families understand and respond to emotional needs, fostering resilience and connection.

Approach

Helping families translate assessment findings into everyday strategies shapes how I work. In my Gisborne clinic, conducted in English, sessions are calm, focused and practical, usually face-to-face with parents and children. Assessments combine structured tasks, developmental history and lived observation, while therapy uses reflective conversation and guided parent–child interactions, with clear tasks and feedback between appointments to try at home and at school. This way of working suits caregivers seeking grounded, emotionally aware guidance alongside clear, actionable steps.
